ABOUT NEW LINKS

New Links is a St Andrews based charity that reaches out to deserving young people through international travel, education and the game of golf. New Links is now close to completing its second decade of activity. Between 2006 and 2009 we hosted youth visits involving about 100 children from South Africa, Kenya, the USA and Scotland. From 2007-2011 we paid for a four-year full-ride scholarship at the University of St Andrews, and in 2012 we supported two young women in their golfing development – one made the US Junior Ryder Cup team and the other won the St Regulus club championship over The Old Course. In July 2016 we relaunched our youth visit programme in partnership with Youth on Course, based in Monterey, California, but operating throughout the USA.

YOUTH VISITS

About the start of July each year New Links hosts a group of young people for a week of educational, sporting and cultural activities centred on St Andrews, the Home of Golf. All New Links activities are supervised by experienced adults. Transfers and transportation is with professional carriers.

SAFE AND SECURE

Participants have single occupancy rooms within a five-bedroom suite at David Russell Apartments (DRA). Each room has ensuite facilities and high speed connectivity. Each suite has a kitchen and communal relaxation space. An adult chaperone, well known to the group, is present at all times. DRA is managed by the University of St Andrews, is within walking distance of the town centre, and is safe and secure.

COMMUNITY BUILDING

In addition to welcoming overseas and travelling youth, we encourage participation from local counterparts who, as well as taking part in the activities on offer, act as hosts to their new friends, giving a special insight into life in St Andrews. This creates an ongoing and valuable legacy from each trip.

SCHOLARSHIPS

New Links is investigating the possibility of establishing a Junior Year Abroad scholarship to the University of St Andrews for the type of young people we have met through New Links events.
